The goal with Queen Esther is to throw this dart at Broadway. My friend Jason Hait and I used to play darts at the aptly named Dive Bar on the Upper West Side. I wasn’t particularly great at the game. Neither did I completely suck. What I found is that if I threw enough darts, one of them would eventually hit a bullseye. And the more I played, the better I got. Getting Queen Esther on Broadway would be like hitting that bullseye. I’m just going to keep throwing darts. As Esther’s cousin Mordechai says in Queen Esther the Musical, “No one ever succeeded by saying, ‘I can’t.'”
